Our firm’s approach to criminal defense is simple and straight-forward. In representing you or your loved-ones we listen, we explain, we zealously advocate and we stick with you throughout the entire process.
We listen:
…to you to understand:
- the factual scenario from your recollections—frequently it is your recollection of a detail or a nuance of the situation that will be the backbone of an effective defense
- your ideas about what either explains or excuses the conduct that has given rise to the charges, especially after you have had an opportunity to review pertinent reports and other state’s evidence
- your history and perspectives
- your concerns and fears
…to prosecutors, judges and probation officers to understand:
- what they perceive is the need or motivation of prosecution
- their ideas and theories regarding your criminal responsibility
- their beliefs and understanding of relevant facts
We explain:
- the precise nature of the statute or statutes under which you are being prosecuted, including potential penalties
- the court processes and procedures—to the degree that we can anticipate them—depending upon jurisdiction, nature of offense, assigned judge and individual prosecutor (understanding what is happening at the various stages is frequently as important as the outcome)
- the defenses and constitutional issues that are available for your defense
- potential consequences and collateral consequences of the various possible outcomes of your case
- all settlement offers at the various stages of the proceedings
We zealously advocate by:
- carefully reviewing prosecution evidence
- considering how to develop and present defense evidence
- using your accomplishments, good works and inherent personality qualities to put you in the best light and make sure that judges, prosecutors and interested parties know the rest of the story behind you and your circumstances
- using the preparation, motions and defenses and constitutional issues to increase the degree of difficulty that prosecutors perceive in securing a conviction, while simultaneously decreasing their motivation to secure such a conviction

…I got a call from police in a distant county telling me that my husband was in their custody on charges of aggravated robbery. This was so shocking and strange that I didn’t know what to do. As soon as I called Gary, he quickly traveled the two-hundred miles to visit my husband, secured affordable bail so that could get him released, instigated our own investigation and convinced the prosecuting authority that they had the wrong guy. The case was eventually dismissed before trial.
